GET FUNDING
SWAP members who are politically active or interested in political office (incumbents and aspirants) and who have enlisted on the SWAP project team (Facebook group here), are automatically eligible for training and support. SWAP facilitates these candidates to promote and exemplify accountability and participation in local politics, public policy and governance.
Candidates must meet the following requirements to be eligible and apply for funding needed for the crucial support of their plans and initiatives.
Required
1. Be between the ages of 25 and 60;
2. Be a university or HND graduate with graduation and NYSC certificate;
3. Have at least 5 years’ progressive work experience and promotion in a corporate setting;
4. Have certificates of company registration for all businesses owned, if an entrepreneur;
5. Have evidence of business transactions, if an owner of a non-registered business;
6. Have a personal bank statement covering at least the past two years’ in their name;
7. Have a corporate bank account statement for the past two years for all businesses where they are a director;
8. Have two (2) personal OR two (2) business guarantors who will recommend them on personal character and business integrity. Guarantors must also be willing to become SWAP members/donors.
Additional/Preferred
1. Have grassroots experience in one of the major political parties in Nigeria or abroad;
2. Be a member of a civil society or political party in Nigeria or abroad;
3. Hold elected/political office at the grassroot level in Nigeria or abroad;
4. Have advanced degree or professional qualifications.
DISBURSEMENTS TO CANDIDATES AND THEIR INITIATIVES
Contributions to champions shall be at the sole discretion of the SWAP Steering Committee, according to these guidelines:
1. SWAP funds will be distributed directly to candidates whose initiatives and plans meet the SWAP criteria.
2. The funds should be strictly for use by such individuals to improve innovation and service delivery results in their area.
3. All distributions made by SWAP shall be drawn on an account maintained by the leadership or by electronic bank transfer to either a political party, a vendor or other services required by the champion.
4. There will be no distributions in cash or to personal bank accounts of supported candidates.
